This unique project celebrates the heritage and history of rugby league in the North East

From 2020 to 2023 we have been building up a repository of information that tells the story of the sport and how its linked into the cultural and working-class backgrounds of the communities. The project tells the story from the time when rugby league split from rugby union, through to its modern renaissance with Newcastle Thunder as a progressive based club, through to the hosting of RLWC.

The project is overseen by Newcastle Rugby Foundation and funded with support of the National Lottery Heritage.
